The Marten Andersen House Relocation &
Renovation Project
Help us move that house!
The Redlands Conservancy and the Historical Glass Museum Foundation will relocate and renovate the 1888 Marten Andersen House to become the primary exhibit space for the Foundation’s extensive collection of American glass, the only collection of its kind in the United States.
Benefits:
- Saves a fine Victorian house from demolition
- More than doubles the museum exhibit space
- Provides space for a research library
- Vitalizes the North Orange Street commercial neighborhood and streetscape
- Involves businesses, organizations, and volunteers throughout the community
- Attracts cultural and heritage tourists to Redlands

Current Status:
- All permits have been OK'd by the City of Redlands. Watch this site for the announcement of the day and time of the moving of the Andersen House from 6th and Sun to the lot next to the Historical Glass Museum, 1157 N. Orange St.. Huell Howser and his crew plan to be there to film the event.
What others say:
City Council member Jon Harrison:
"This project not only serves to preserve one of the oldest houses in north Redlands, but contributes to the revitalization of the Orange Street streetscape. I urge you to support the efforts of the Redlands Conservancy and the Historical Glass Museum in whatever manner you can."
Dr. Larry Burgess, Director, A.K. Smiley Library:
"I was on the board of the Redlands Area Historical Society when the house was given a Heritage Home Award more than two decades ago. It was significant then and it is more significant now with the passing of additional years. It is a survivor. . . . In my opinion, the Andersen House project merits full support from the pocketbooks of foundations, individual contributors, and corporations."
Huell Howser, "California’s Gold":
"Just call me. I’ll be there for the move."
